Viking leg wrap fibula – bronze

This small viking leg wrap fibula in bronze is suitable for Viking era costumes, but brooches like these were already in use since the Roman period. These penannular brooches, also called horseshoe, omega brooches or fibulas, were used to close garments or fasten all sorts of material, but mostly fabric. The smaller brooches, like this one, were mostly used to close the neckline of tunics and dresses or to fasten leg wraps. The ends of the brooch are curled to prevent the needle from coming loose.

The viking horseshoe fibula measures 2.7 x 2.5 cm and has a needle of 3.5 cm.
