This dragon-shaped brooch is based on late Viking Age archaeological finds. Dragons have been a typical example of magical or mythological creatures throughout various civilizations in history.
Decorative brooches like these were historically used to close the necklines of garments or fasten cloaks. Nevertheless these brooches can also be used for purely decorative purposes, since they are so intricately detailed. The needle at the back makes it very easy to attach the brooch to fabric.
