This typical 13th century brooch is modelled after brooch depicted on the statue of Eve in the cathedral of Rheims. Although this specific brooch is depicted on the statue of Eve, these brooches were commonly used in the High Middle Ages by men and women alike, mostly to close the neck of shirts, dresses etc. The specific shape of this brooch is a ‘barbed quatrefoil’, a commonly used decorative element in gothic architecture.
The Medieval fuerspan brooch is 3.7 x 3.6 cm and is available in bonze as well as a silver-plated variant.
