This small to medium sized brooch is based on Viking era examples.
This is a ‘penannular’ – ‘pen’ for the pin, ‘annular’ simply means ring-shaped – style brooch, also called fibula, with curled ends. These brooches were used widely between the eight and eleventh century but were already in use during the Roman period. Their main use is to close garments, like cloaks.
The Forged fibula – small has a diameter of 5 cm and the length of the needle is 6,5 cm.
